Roughly fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis show the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative said the attack made him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
